Review:
Okay, so I'm sorry, but this was not my favorite book. Although, upon reading it again, I find myself liking Jacob more and feeling quite sorry for him. My biggest complaint is that Bella is absolutely and completely irritating beyond belief. In my opinion anyway. Even before Edward left her, she has no self esteem, hardly any redeeming qualities to be found (in her viewpoint anyway, I had an interesting experience reading Midnight Sun, which I will talk more about tomorrow). Then once Edward does leave... whoa. Can anyone say LOSER? I'm sorry if that is harsh, but seriously. The girl stops living (in all but the stictest sense of the word). I can understand a few days, maybe even weeks, but months? Seriously? Breakups are awful and hard and devastating - especially if you are still in love with the person. But I think Bella's reaction is so overboard. I actually liked Jacob a lot more this time, as I mentioned earlier. I had much more empathy for him and how he must feel. And of course the whole Italy escapade is awesome. I love the Volturi and all the "talents" and everything. So the end helped redeem the first 3/4 of the book.
So what were your thoughts on this one? I know many said it was their least favorite, and then there are those who like Jacob more than Edward. How about you?
I'm excited to see how this movie turns out - hopefully better than the first one! Although I agree with Aubrey... it looks like Kristen is still acting Bella the same, which is annoying. But we'll see... the special effects look a LOT better, so that's encouraging. Only a couple more days!

For me, Bella is annoying yes, but it wasn't in her reaction to Edward leaving. I was so shocked and angry at Edward for leaving too! Although I guess she never really got angry did she, just felt that it was her fault...annoying.
When I re-read this I liked Jacob more, but he still bothers me. I think it is more what happens in book 3 that really is the breaker for me and his character. Bella chooses Edward and he won't accept it. He is manipulative in his actions to try and win her back, or hold on to some semblance of the relationship he thought they had. When in fact spending time with Jacob in this book started out as a way to remain closer to Edward.
And yes the Volturi stuff is just awesome! I am really excited to see Dakota Fanning as Jane! Eeek! Tomorrow night people!
I haven't reread the book, but yes, I loved the Volturi stuff. It was intense and interesting. I liked Jacob and could see a difference in Edward and Jacob's personalities (which is good for a writer). I am interested on how the movie will play out. I hope it is good. =)
Aubrey, I was pissed at Edward, too. Actually, part of the reason the third book is my favorite of the series is the amount he has to pay for doing that. LOL.
I like Jacob, too, but I never wanted her to hook up with him. I never understood the whole "Team Jacob" thing, because Bella loved Edward.

I absolutely loathed Jacob the first time through. Now I think he's a good guy, just was beyond annoying with his obsession with Bella. I mean really, she chose someone else, let go.
I wanted him to end up with someone in the end, but um...it kind of turned out a bit odd if you think about it...

i think the reason why i like him is because he really truly is genuine in his feelings for her. he cares about her alot.
and we know edward is a good guy. but jacob didnt! its in his blood to hate vampires, so put yourself in his shoes.
your bestest freind in the whole world (who you start having feelings for) is dating someone who you really believe by nature is just BAD NEWS and he hurts your best freind.
she comes to you and spends everyday with you and your feelings grow. you see how much she hurts every day... how can you like the prick who did this to her?

he loved bella (idiot bella)and didnt know edward the way we knew him.
i dont blame him for persisting that she stay away from ed, cos she always (in his eyes)risks getting hurt, even killed.

mogs you make some good points, and as I said I could see some of his better traits after multiple read throughs, but he still bugged me because um...yeah he ACTED 16. Immature immature immature!
