Review Fallen by Lauren Kate

Fallen by Lauren Kate

Published:
December 8th 2009 by Delacorte Press

Hardcover, 452 pages

Placement in Pile:
Reaching New Heights

Summary:
There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story

Review:
At 452 pages, I was skeptical I'd make it through the entire book in one sitting.  Surprisingly, I did.  It's a page-turner to say the least.  Every chapter is mystery packed on mystery.  When you think you have one angle figured out, there's another thrown at you.
Luce, the protagonist, is adorable, sympathetic, and most importantly a little crazy.  The girl is enrolled in a reform school for possibly having killed her last boyfriend--to me that screams of lunacy.  Oddly enough though, you find yourself drawn to her and her chaotic decisions.  Then when she meets Daniel, who's outright rude and wants to have nothing to do with her, I was suprised, as a reader that her reasoning concerning him is utterly believable.  I was sucked in to the end.

So, you ask, why did I just rate it as "Reaching New Heights"?  Because, (and I did think twice on this), the ending is a shameless hook for book two!  In fact, when I thought I had everthing figured out, I read the last two pages and nearly peed my pants.  Really.  I know, gross right?  Well I was that bothered.

My suggestion:  Read it and see for yourself.

Great review. I've gone back and forth on this one hearing mixed reviews, but I think I'll definitely read it now. And the cover IS awesome.

I've been unsure whether I wanted to read this one (and yes, Stacey the cover is GORGEOUS!) but when it came down to deciding which one to buy I picked Hush, Hush. (I could only afford one) I guess I'll have to put this one on the list now... Thanks for the review!
